BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Blanche has served on the board of directors for The House Youth Centre (THYC) for approximately seven years and has been the chairperson for the past four years. Blanche is a nurse by background with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Windsor, and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Management from Athabasca University. In her working life, she is the organizational Director of Personal Support Care with SE Health where she has been employed for over 20 years.

Having started at THYC in grade 10 (then The House of Shalom) Blanche has been through the program, has been a leader, and a head leader. One of her groups was among the first to use our current ‘family song’ – which she is very proud of.

Blanche is also the chair of the program committee, and they are, as a group, passionate about the program. They are dedicated to maintaining the program’s integrity and the foundation that was built by Fr. John Ware and holding on to the traditions that make sense in our current environment is a priority for them. As well as adding complementary programs to grow the organization.

Deanna has served on the board of directors and the Program Committee with the House Youth Centre for the past year. Although Deanna did not formally attend the House Youth Centre, she has seen the positive impact this organization has on youth in Windsor Essex County. Deanna’s biggest motivation in joining the board of directors and program committee was her young family, Deanna recognizes the importance of the Centre and continues the legacy of the house so one day her children can participate in the programming offered.

John has been involved with The House Youth Centre since 2003. He’s had the privilege of being a youth leader in several groups, a head leader and a member of the board.
During the day John is a Manager of Sales Practices, Conduct and Risk Culture. Helping to maintain the integrity and accountability within his organization.
As Treasurer, he wants to help steward The House to ensure it remains a consistent and sustainable safe space for the town’s youth.

Destiny is part of the executive, as Board Secretary, she is also an active member of the program committee. Destiny has served on the board of directors for 3 years and is completing her post-secondary education.

Destiny continues her parents’ legacy of being an active member, program committee member, and volunteer at The House Youth Centre (THYC). Destiny formally started the program in grade 9 and has been involved since birth, attending meetings with her mom as an infant. Currently, Destiny is leading the 2022 grade 11 groups.

As a twenty-year resident of Amherstburg and over a decades-long leadership involvement with The House, Brendan has been shaped by the experiences and the people he’s met through the centre. Now, as chair of the Technology Committee and as a Board Member, Brendan has had the opportunity to use his skills to help the organization modernize and grow.

Jamie started at the House in his Grade 9 year.  In the time since, Jamie has been a volunteer, a youth leader, a head lead and a member of the board.  During the day, Jamie works as an automotive engineer. However, he believes it is as equally important to give back to the youth in the community, as the House gave to him when he was young.

Sarah joined The House Youth Centre when she was in grade 10. Afterwards, she remained a volunteer as an adult mentor/leader and board member for over 25 years. During the day Sarah is a Coordinator for the Tourism and Culture Department for the Town of Amherstburg. She continued as a volunteer as a member of the board and a chair of the PR/Marketing Committee because she truly believes the youth need a place where they feel safe to be themselves while they figure out who they want to be.

I first walked through those doors in 1994 as a young teenage girl with so much LIFE going on. I found a place that helped me grow and figure out things about myself. I made friends of all ages and I met some of my best friends there. I want to help our youth rediscover the greatness of House. We are in a new chapter and I am honoured to be part of it.
